Progressing your trainer level / Introduction to RCT

This article goes over how to progress your 'Trainer Level", which is tied directly to how high a level you can train your Cobblemon.

Radical Cobblemon Trainers

Radical Cobblemon Trainers (RCT) is a Cobblemon add-on mod that introduces structured Pokémon-style progression through trainer battles, Gym Leaders, Rivals, the Elite Four, and Champions. 

Getting Started

To begin a campaign, locate a Trainer Association NPC (looks like an off-colored wandering trader) and select one of the available Trainer Series trading in a Trainer Card (Either sold by the Trainer Association or can be crafted):

  • Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl  – A traditional Pokémon experience based on the Generation IV remakes, featuring familiar Gym Leaders and progression.

  • Radical Red – A significantly more challenging campaign inspired by the Pokémon Radical Red ROM hack, featuring stronger AI, competitive teams, and more difficult battles.

Progress is tracked independently for each series, and swapping series resets all progress.

Progression

Trainers naturally spawn across the world and vary depending on the biome and progression. As players advance, they will encounter increasingly difficult opponents equipped with stronger Pokémon, improved movesets, held items, and smarter battle strategies.

In the Trainer Card Menu, you can click on Trainers in the list and view specific information about that trainer, including their Signature Item(See Trainer Spawning) and their spawn biomes.

You can also press the arrow button next to where it says your series, and it will pop up the progression tree for your series.

(Hint: Your Trainer Card will glow like it's enchanted when the next trainer in your series is nearby and when holding it will have an arrow pointing towards the trainer)

Trainer Spawning

While trainers spawn naturally, gym leaders can only be located in their respective gym structures located around the overworld. These gym leaders are spawned when a player enters their gym for the first time and can only be challenged a few times, and then will refuse to battle. Each gym also includes a button on the side of the gym as a means to respawn the leader. To respawn the leader, you simply utilize the button while holding that gym's respective type gem (All sold in the spawn shop).

Certain rival trainers can be hard to locate and may take a while to spawn naturally. Luckily, RCT includes a Trainer Spawner block for such occasions. trainer spawner image Rival trainers, when looking at them in the Trainer Card Menu, will display a "signature item" if they have one. This item can be placed in the spawner and will spawn the respective trainer.

Trainer Levels

A player's trainer level is directly tied to their progression within a trainer series. You can click on the trainer card and, in the menu, see who you need to challenge next and if your level will change after defeating them. The further you are in a series, the higher your trainer level.

(Reminder: Swapping your series will wipe all your data from the previous series and reset your trainer level)
